Now you can try beauty products! From home.
Can you
see yourself, spotting a friend’s look on Facebook or a model’s make-up on
Instagram that you just HAVE TO try out yourself?
However,
you don’t know what product was used, and on top you find yourself still in bed
on a rainy Sunday morning.
So how
will you know, what make-up your favorite model was using on the latest
Instagram picture you saw? And how do you have to do nothing in order to
receive your product suggestion than just being excited about seeing the
product used in the picture?
AR is the
solution! - In a hyper-personalized world, your future purchases will be
predicted based on your emotions, not on your past purchase behavior which
Amazon is utilizing. Amazon generates suggestions for you after you have
purchased an item. These suggestions are based on algorithms using machine
learning.
In
future, only by going through your Instagram Feed, your Smartphone will track
your facial movements, understand your emotions and suggest the product for you
that just made you feel excited.
In 2014 already, L’Oréal launched its Makeup Genius App. Through this app, you could convert your smartphone’s camera into a mirror using innovative technology to try L’Oréal‘s products vir
tually in real time, share them on social media and buy them online while casually lying in bed – on a rainy Sunday morning.
In 2016, L’Oréal found the app being used by 20 million users globally. This emphasizes, that not only you and me are shifting to a digital, convenient way of shopping. Augmented Reality was implemented in the Makeup Genius App and personalized the customers beauty e-routine.
Especially in China, e-commerce is being a growth catalyst for L’Oréal‘s Consumer Products with accounting for one more than one-third of sales.
Just now, in March 2018, L’Oréal has acquired ModiFace, a Canadian company which is internationally recognized as leader in augmented reality and artificial intelligence. This move shows us, that there is way more to come and to be developed, especially in the tech beauty field or the Consumer Goods industry.
The question remains: What is next?
